Title Rights
In Germany, a work is not only protected by copyright; the title of the work is also protected as a sign, similar to a trademark. This means:
- The choice of title must take into account existing title rights. For your own security, BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT can carry out title rights research.
- As soon as the name of a project has been decided, a “title protection announcement” (Titelschutzanzeige) should be made before the publication of the work. This helps to fix priority of ones own title rights. In this way the title of the work can be protected if it is published a reasonable amount of time later. We will gladly place such an announcement for you.
