Dipl.-Ing. Nils T. F. Schmid
German Patent Attorney, European Patent and Trade Mark Attorney, Partner, Munich, Paris
studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Karlsruhe and at the California Institute of Technology (CALTECH) with emphasis on materials science and technical mechanics and qualified as engineer in 1997. At the same time, he acquired a Diploma in Advanced Studies (DEA) at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts et Metiers (ENSAM) in Paris in the area of development and manufacturing of motor vehicle bodies.
He has been a German patent attorney and European Patent Attorney with BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT since 2001. He specialises in the areas of traditional mechanical engineering, his particular interest being in the areas of motor vehicle, tooling and medical technology. For his clients, especially medium-sized companies, he develops both national and global patent strategies and sees to their conversion with regard to the building up and management of patent and ornamental patent portfolios. A further emphasis of his work lies on infringement disputes and the setting up of companies' own IP departments, including assistance with employee inventor law.
Nils T. F. Schmid is, further, location representative at the Paris office of BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT. Here, he is in particular the contact person for subsidiaries and joint ventures of German parent companies.
Nils T. F. Schmid lectures at the Université de Strasbourg (CEIPI seminars), preparing candidates for the admission examination for qualifying as European Patent Attorney (EQE) (European Qualifying Examination). In addition, he regularly holds further education seminars for the European Patent Academy of the EPO to prepare Examiners for the EQE.
He is President of the UNION of Practitioners in Intellectual Property. He is also active as a member of the LES Germany and France and as member of the Bavarian Patent Attorneys Association.
