He studied biology at the Free University Berlin, and earned his doctorate at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetic in Berlin on the genetic basis of antibiotic resistance in human pathogenic bacteria. After finalizing his patent attorney training in Berlin and Munich, he worked in the biotech group of a large U.S. patent law firm in Frankfurt am Main.
His areas of technical expertise are the life sciences, especially pharmaceuticals, molecular biology, immunology, plant genetics, biochemistry, and biotechnology. He represents domestic and international clients, such as innovative life science and pharmaceutical companies and universities, in all fields of intellectual property. This representation includes a focus on strategic IP planning, the generation of IP portfolios, and the enforcement of IP rights.
He is the president of the Life Sciences Committee of the Licensing Executive Society International (LESI), and is a member of the Biotechnology Committees of the Bar of German Patent Attorneys and the UNION. Furthermore, he is a member of epi, GBM, GRUR, VPP, and the Bundesverband Deutscher Patentanwälte.
Since 2008, Dr. Krauss is a guest lecturer at the University of Washington, School of Law, Seattle, U.S.A. Additionally, he regularly gives seminars for FORUM Institute regarding patent claims and U.S. patent law. He is the author of numerous patent law articles in national and international journals.
JUVE Handbuch 2011/2012 rank Dr. Krauss as one of the leading names among German Patent Attorneys with pharma as their technical focus. In Legal 500 Deutschland 2010/2011, Dr. Krauss is one of the particularly recommended patent attorneys.
