Prof. Dr. Nordemann studied law at the universities of Berlin, Göttingen and Cambridge. In 1997, he joined the law firm, BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT where he works as an attorney at law. Prof. Nordemann has specialised in several areas of intellectual property and is today a recognised expert in these fields.
In copyright law as well as press law and publishing law, Prof. Nordemann represents German and foreign book, newspaper and magazine publishers, internet portals and authors. In addition, he provides services for film companies nationally and internationally, including US studios and industry associations. In the area of theatre, several organisations have elected him legal council. He has held the position of legal council to the German Association of Designers for many years and as such also possesses considerable expertise in the field of design. Prof. Nordemann is co-editor of “Fromm/Nordemann”, one of the leading copyright law commentaries, and author of numerous chapters in the standard work “Loewenheim, Handbook of Copyright”. He is a tutor for the specialist attorney course for copyright and media law at the German Attorney Academy (Deutsche Anwalt Akademie) and lecturer for one introductory and one expert course on copyright law. The JUVE directory for 2011/2012 again considers Nordemann to be one of the leading German copyright lawyers. “Legal 500 Deutschland 2010/2011“ describes him as a copyright lawyer of especially high standing. “Best Lawyers International“ voted him the top practitioner in the fields of entertainment, IP and media.
In respect of trademark law, Prof. Nordemann represents German and international companies, including companies from the media and IT industries as well as from the area of consumer goods. He administers worldwide trademark portfolios and represents trademark owners before German and EU courts and authorities.
On competition law, Prof. Nordemann advises companies in relation to their various campaigns and appears before court where appropriate. He is author of the well-known standard work, “Nordemann, Competition Law – Trademark Law” (Nordemann, Wettbewerbsrecht - Markenrecht) and gives presentations on competition law at the Humboldt University in Berlin. The Law Students Examination Authority (Justizprüfungsamt) Berlin-Brandenburg has made him an extra official member, in particular for competition law.
In terms of anti-trust law, Prof. Nordemann advises and represents companies in respect of anti-competitive agreements and the ban on discrimination. His specialist area is anti-trust law and intellectual property law. In this respect, Prof. Nordemann is considered one of the few anti-trust experts, who works on this interface. He composed the comments in the well-known commentary on anti-trust law, Loewenheim/Meessen/Riesenkampff on §§ 1, 2 and 3 of the GWB (German anti-trust Act) as well as on § 30 GWB (German Anti-trust Act), as well as writing further papers. He is also an elected member of the German intellectual property association, GRUR, expert committee on anti-trust law.
He was declared as Honorary Professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin. The German arm of the International Association for Intellectual Property (AIPPI) has appointed him on to the board.
