
Dr. jur. Thomas W. Boddien
Attorney at Law (Germany), admitted at the European Trade Mark Office, Partner, Berlin
studied law at the Humboldt University of Berlin with a special emphasis on intellectual property rights and copyright law. His doctorate thesis deals with the musical adaption and the technical remastering of existing music recordings, their exploitation and related copyright and competition law matters.
In practice he is specialized in trade mark law, competition law, copyright law, media law as well as data protection law. His clients include numerous national and international companies as well as associations in areas such as advertising, licensing, trade, banking, insurance and energy which he represents in matters concerning trade mark law, competition law, copyright law and media law (including press law). In trade mark law, he advises his clients in their development of German and international trade mark strategies, in trade mark application and registration procedures as well as the assertion and defence of trade mark rights before courts and official bodies. In the areas of competition law, copyright law and media law, Dr. Boddien consults companies and advertising agencies in the creation and realisation of advertising and marketing measures as well as company campaigns; he represents these companies in and out of court. His work also covers advice and representation in licensing law matters such as the drafting up of trade mark and copyright licensing agreements. Dr. Boddien supports and advises his clients on data protection issues related to the implementation of their projects.
Dr. Boddien is co-author of the well-known copyright law commentary, “Fromm/Nordemann: Copyright Law” (from 10th edition). In addition, he regularly publishes articles in professional journals (e.g. ZUM, MDP) and gives lectures as expert speaker on trade mark law, copyright law, competition law and data protection law issues at seminars and further education events.
