Dr. jur. Andreas Dustmann, LL.M.
Attorney at Law (Germany), admitted at the European Trade Mark Office, Partner, Potsdam
studied law at the Universities of Heidelberg, Madrid Complutense and Cologne. He obtained the degree of Master of Laws (LL.M.) at the University of Edinburgh in 1995. In his doctorate work, Andreas Dustmann was concerned with the liability of Internet service providers for online copyright infringement. From 1998 to 1999, he was a research fellow at the Max-Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg.
Andreas Dustmann joined the Partnership in 2001. His clients include domestic and foreign undertakings for whom he undertakes a wide range of intellectual property work. Andreas has made a name for himself by representing certain US motion picture studios in a number of high profile cases on internet service provider liability. He also has significant experience assisting companies in setting up video-on-demand portals and eCommerce platforms and continues to advise media undertakings, agencies and dealers on all IP related aspects of the Internet.
For years Andreas Dustmann has represented clients in complex legal disputes, especially in the area of competition, copyright, trademark and design law. He is also increasingly active in patent litigation.
As a specialist in domain law and practice, Andreas acts in domain name disputes both before the national courts and in arbitration before the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). In addition, he manages trademark and design portfolios for numerous medium-sized companies.
The JUVE Handbook 2011/2012 has listed Andreas Dustmann amongst the specially recommended lawyers on copyright and media law in the Land of Brandenburg.
He regularly writes on copyright and Internet law topics and is a lecturer on copyright law at the University of Potsdam. Andreas Dustmann is a co-author of the Praxishandbuch Geistiges Eigentum im Internet (Practical Handbook on Intellectual Property in the Internet) (2003) and the Fromm/Nordemann Commentary on Copyright Law (10th edition, 2009).
He has since 2007 chaired the specialist lawyers' committee on copyright and media law for the Land of Brandenburg and is a member of GRUR and of UNION.
